When is the best time to fish?

We have these leaping beasts in our local waters year round if it is warm. The best time to fish for them are the months of March through June, however, December, January and February can provide some of the best tarpon fishing if the water is warm enough (up to 72 deg.) It is not uncommon to spot 100 fish per day in these winter months. Most winter and spring fish are in the 60-150 pound range. This is your best chance to catch these fish on a fly rod but plug fishing can be very good also. October and November can also be a great time to plug fish for these brutes as they move into the back country waters, living in the deeper rivers while waiting for the annual mullet run to begin.

These fabulous fighters can be caught year round with the best sight fishing being in the winter and spring. They never leave this area but just move from the back country to the shallow flats on the outside depending on the time of year. Fish range in size from two pounds to thirty pounds!

Reds are another fish that can be taken year round in these waters with the fall and winter months seeing the most action. In the months of September and October the Reds tend to school up and you can have a great day catching them until you give up from exhaustion. Most of these fish will be in the four to eight pound range
